Algarve Tasty Treasures

Your guide to discovering delicious food and welcoming atmospheres at affordable prices.

Sr. Frango

Almancil / 15€ ~ 30€.

As the name suggests, the restaurant specializes in Franguinho da Guia* (grilled chicken), but the menu is impressively diverse, offering a wide range of meat, fish, some seafood, and desserts that are sure to delight anyone with a sweet tooth.

My go-to order here is always the Chicken, without the spicy piri-piri, accompanied by a fresh Salada Montanheira (Algarvian Salad) and white rice.

On colder days or when I’m in the mood for something heartier, I like to start with the Canga de Galinha – a chicken broth that is typically Portuguese, but interestingly, its origin is Chinese (congee).

However, the menu offers many other equally appealing choices, such as the Chicken Curry, Grilled Sirloin Steak, and Portuguese-style Steak, which I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a good steak.

The atmosphere is not luxurious, but it has a certain elegance, partly due to the use of cloth tablecloths and napkins, as well as the thoughtful décor and lighting. It’s clear that attention was given to creating a comfortable yet refined dining experience.

The waiting staff, much like the menu, is extensive and diverse, and without exception, they are extremely polite and friendly. The speed of the service is particularly impressive, even during the busy summer months. The chicken is always ready and served promptly, although more elaborate dishes may take a bit longer to prepare.

Parking can be limited, especially in the summer when they extend the outdoor seating area into the parking lot to make the most of the good weather. However, this is not really an issue, as there is ample parking available nearby.

* Franguinho da Guia is a traditional Portuguese grilled chicken dish from Guia, Algarve. The chicken is marinated in garlic, piri-piri, olive oil, and sometimes lemon juice, then grilled over charcoal for a smoky flavor. It’s often served with fries, salad, or rice and is loved for its spicy kick and crispy texture.
