Algarve Tasty Treasures

Your guide to discovering delicious food and welcoming atmospheres at affordable prices.

Terra i Mar

Olhão / 30€.

This restaurant is a true gem, especially for seafood lovers. While the prices may be on the higher side, the exceptional quality makes it worth every penny and ensures a delightful experience for all. Reservations are highly recommended.

The menu shines with hearty, traditional dishes, such as Seafood Rice, Fish Stew, and the iconic Cataplanas. For those who prefer meat, the options are equally exquisite, offering a well-rounded dining experience.

For starters, I recommend the Tuna Pica-Pau*, which was a pleasant surprise with its unique flavors. As a main course, the Moqueca de Peixe e Camarão** is a must-try, rich in taste and beautifully prepared.

The service is excellent, even during the bustling summer season when the restaurant is often packed.

The indoor space is cozy and inviting, but I strongly suggest opting for outdoor seating if available – it’s a more enjoyable and charming setting for your meal.

* Pica-Pau is a Portuguese snack tipicaly made with sautéed pork loin pieces, seasoned with garlic, bay leaf, wine, and served with pickles, olives, and bread to dip in the flavorful sauce. “Pica” comes from “picar,” meaning to pick, as the dish is eaten with toothpicks.

** Moqueca de Camarão is a traditional Brazilian dish with African and Indigenous roots. It consists of shrimp cooked in a rich stew of coconut milk, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and peppers, seasoned with coriander and dendê (palm oil). Typically served with rice, it reflects Brazil’s diverse culinary heritage.
